Our story on how we fell in love with travelling and why having a child never changed that, it only sparked further curiosity

OUR STORY

Oli and I have travelled extensively both together and apart. Oli spent 12 months travelling around Australia before we got together and I spent 4 months travelling around the USA covering offer 34 states. Between us we have covered off 16% of the world, around 32 countries (we used the app Been to calculate that, we aren't that weird).

Together (before Jax) we had spent time in Sweden, Egypt, Latvia, Slovakia, Mexico, Germany and knew when Jax came along we didn't want to change the way we travel. We had planned to spend a year in Australia travelling around before Jax started school and then Covid hit and that changed absolutely everything for us. For around 2 years we couldn't travel like lots of other people and having that time at home gave us the opportunity to change the way we looked at money, our time and how we travelled. We decided that we would try and travel as much as we possibly could around our 9-5. We have always taken Jax out of school for travel and never had any issues with him falling behind. Our first BIG family trip was to Thailand in December 2023 and we didn't look back, it fuelled us even more and we knew from that trip on we wanted to do this full time but we weren't really sure how we would make it work. We also go married in Chiang Mai, Thailand in 2023, it was just the 3 of us there, it was perfect. After we got back from Thailand we seemed to have a really emotionally hard 2024 and we were just so fed up with the grind, the bullshit of daily life and then the government announced their plans to punish families who want to give their children more by taking them on family trips in term time and we knew in that moment when those rules came into place that we needed to change things once again because we simply couldn't travel the way we had been with the new rules in place. We discussed in detail as a family what we wanted to do and how we wanted to make it work and the 3 of us agreed that we should try and take a sabbatical from work and pull Jax from full time education and World School him. So we asked our work for a sabbatical and we were both granted 2 years leave and that is what kick started the ball rolling and we plan to leave for our full time travels in September 2025.

Both Oli and I have a shared interest in photography and we love to share all of our travels on our social media account, to us this acts as a memory capsule for Jax as he loves to see the reels we have created and reflect on our past travels, it creates conversation and sparks so much wonder in him.

We can't wait to take you along for the ride as we navigate this next chapter of our lives to Asia and beyond.
