We found better deals booking through local airline counters or Thai apps after we landed. Don’t lock everything in before you arrive — sometimes waiting = winning.

🚐💔 Goodbye, Fillmore… you were never just a van—you were part of our family. For almost half of Jax’s life, you carried us on adventures we’ll never forget. From the moment he turned 4, you became our home on wheels, our safe space, our little piece of freedom.

We never planned to say goodbye, but sometimes life takes unexpected turns. Selling you was never in the plan, but we know this sacrifice will be worth it for what’s ahead in September. Still, our hearts are heavy today.

Tourists make the same mistakes when it comes to eating in Thailand and it costs them WAY more than it should. Don’t be that person. Here’s how to eat like a local AND save big 👇

🍛 Ditch the tourist restaurants – If it has fairy lights, English-only menus, and a guy outside begging you to come in, run. The best food is found where the locals eat—tiny street stalls, night markets, and places with plastic chairs.

💰 Street food is king – Pad Thai for 40 baht? YES PLEASE. The street food here is fresh, fast, and cheap—plus, it’s cooked in front of you so you know it’s legit.

🚶‍♂️ Go one street back – Beachfront and main road restaurants charge double. Walk a block away and suddenly, that same dish is half the price and twice as good.

🍜 Eat where it’s busy – A queue of locals = guaranteed good food. A quiet restaurant at peak dinner time? AVOID.

🥡 7-Eleven toasties are elite – 30 baht for a cheesy, crispy, life-changing snack? You won’t regret it.

🌶️ Spice level matters! – Love spice? Say “phet mak mak” (very spicy). Can’t handle heat? Say “mai phet” (not spicy) or they’ll still add a kick! 🔥

The WORST boat ride of our lives ⛴️🤢

If you’re travelling with kids and want to visit the Surin Islands, I would certainly reconsider after our experience… keep reading 📖

Imagine 2 hours of absolute madness… EACH WAY. The crossing to the Surin Islands from Khao Lak was so rough that all you could do was stare down at the floor and hope for the best 😵‍💫.

🚨 To make matters worse, a tour guide and passenger on another boat collided mid-air (yes, MID-AIR) and injured their backs so badly they had to be transferred onto our boat because our captain was more experienced. 😳

Meanwhile, Jax, Snoozing the whole way 😴 (thank you, anti-sickness tablets 🙌). Another lad wasn’t so lucky… let’s just say his breakfast didn’t survive the journey 🤢, nor did his lunch on the way home.

One girl at the back by the engines sat with a snorkel and mask on her face the whole way back 🤣 her face had gone blue by the time we arrived.. can you spot her in the reel? - absolute madness

And was it worth it?! Honestly… NO. Yes, the waters were clear, and the snorkelling was decent, but there are way better (and cheaper) places in Thailand that don’t require a near-death experience to reach 🫠.

Would we do it again with a kid? Absolutely not. Would we recommend it? Also no. Just don’t, well not if you have kids anyway 🚫

A day of fun turned into a disaster…

What started as an exciting arrival on the shoreline of Monkey Beach turned into a nightmare when a monkey attacked Jax. 🐒 As Oli set Jax down on the shore after getting off the long tail boat, he turned for a second to help me, and in that split second, a monkey came running down the beach and bit Jax’s leg. 😱

It all happened so fast—Jax was screaming, I was in shock, and we had no idea what had just happened. Oli quickly got the monkey off, and we quickly left and rushed Jax to the medical centre on Phi Phi Island. 🚑

We honestly thought it was safe to be on the beach—so many other people were already there, and it never crossed our minds that something like this could happen, especially since we had nothing on us. No bags, no food—just in our swimmers 🩱. The medical team was amazing, and Jax ended up having 7 injections that day, with 4 more over the next two weeks. 💉

Luckily, we had travel insurance and were able to claim back all the costs 💸. A huge reminder to always have travel insurance and be prepared for the unexpected. 🛡️ We were lucky, but it could have been so much worse.

Maya Bay is breathtaking, but let’s be real, it gets PACKED. Here’s how to experience it at its best 👇

🏝 Book a private long-tail boat to arrive at the dock just before 7 AM. This way, it’s just you—not a big group—so you can go at your own pace. Plus, you’ll catch the sunrise over the ocean on the journey over, a magical experience before the crowds arrive.

📸 Don’t overstay! Get in, take your photos, soak up the beauty, and leave before it turns into a tourist frenzy. Our footage is “quiet” compared to the chaos when we finally got back on our boat and we were only there 47 minutes

💰 Entry Fee if not included in your ticket:
• Adults: 400 THB
• Kids: 200 THB

🚫 Important! Maya Bay is closed from August 1st – September 30th each year for environmental rehabilitation. Plan your trip accordingly!

❌ Overpriced tuk-tuks – If the driver won’t agree on a fair price, walk away! Use Grab instead for cheaper, hassle-free rides.

❌ The “Temple is Closed” scam – If a stranger tells you a temple is closed and offers a “special tour” instead, ignore them and check the opening hours yourself.

❌ Elephant riding – It’s marketed as a “must-do,” but it’s actually cruel. Instead, visit an ethical elephant sanctuary where you can observe them responsibly.

❌ Floating markets near Bangkok – Many are now tourist traps with inflated prices. If you want an authentic experience, research the local ones instead and visit with a local if you can!

The BIGGEST MISTAKES tourists make in Thailand! 🚨💸 Don’t let these cost you!

📍 Make sure you save this before your trip to Thailand

💰 Exchanging money at the airport is a rookie mistake. The rates are terrible, and you’ll lose money before your trip even starts! Instead, use SuperRich or local money changers for way better deals. ATMs work too, but watch out for high withdrawal fees.

🚕 Tuk-tuks are fun, but if you don’t agree on a price beforehand, you’ll get overcharged every time. These rides don’t have meters, so negotiate before hopping in or just use Grab for a stress-free ride.

🛕 Ever been told a temple is “closed” right as you arrive? It’s a scam. Someone will offer to take you on a “better tour” but will actually just drag you to overpriced shops where they get a commission. Always check the actual opening hours yourself.

💸 ATM fees here are ridiculous, and the exchange rates aren’t great. If you can wait, SuperRich gives you WAY better rates in the city or in the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport

5️⃣ Bangkok Has TWO Airports – Don’t Mix Them Up!
✈️ Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) are NOT the same place. If you have a connecting flight, double-check your airport—transfers take at least an hour!

Day 1: Arrive & Unwind

Check into your riad and escape the buzz of the medina. Spend the afternoon soaking up the peaceful courtyard vibes with mint tea in hand or head to the rooftop for sunset views over the city. If you’re feeling up to it, take a short walk to explore the nearby souks before finding a local restaurant for a relaxed dinner

Day 2: Agafay Desert Escape

Venture to the stunning Agafay Desert for a day at a luxury camp. Enjoy camel rides (from 300 MAD), quad biking across the rocky dunes (from 600 MAD), or simply unwind by the pool with a refreshing drink. As the sun sets, indulge in a magical dinner under the stars before heading back to Marrakech for the night. Day 3: Palaces & Gardens

El Nido vs Coron vs Siquijor – Which Island is Best for Families? 🏝️✨

If you’re planning a family trip to the Philippines, choosing the right island(s) can be tricky! Here’s our take on these three stunning destinations:

🌊 El Nido – Famous for its breathtaking lagoons and island-hopping tours, but be prepared for long boat rides that might not be ideal for younger kids. Accommodation and food options can also be pricey.

🏝 Coron – A paradise for snorkeling and diving, with stunning shipwrecks and crystal-clear waters. However, there are fewer sandy beaches for kids to play on, and the town itself is quite basic with limited activities beyond island hopping.

☀️ Siquijor – A hidden gem with beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and an easygoing vibe. It’s much less touristy, making it a relaxing spot for families. Plus, it’s super easy to get around, and you won’t need to rely on tours to explore!

✨ Our top pick? Siquijor! It’s laid-back, budget-friendly, and packed with adventure without feeling overwhelming. The perfect balance for a family getaway!

Here are some of the biggest mistakes to avoid when travelling Thailand as a family:

1️⃣ Underestimating the Heat & Humidity ☀️

Thailand is HOT, and little ones can tire quickly. Plan outdoor activities early in the morning or late afternoon, and always carry water, sunscreen, and a hat.

2️⃣ Not Checking Local Festivals & Holidays 🎉

Major holidays like Songkran (Thai New Year in April) can be an incredible experience but may also mean higher prices, fully booked hotels, and transport chaos. Research ahead!

3️⃣ Trying to Do Too Much 🏝️

Thailand is packed with amazing places, but cramming too many destinations into a short trip leads to burnout (especially with kids). Slow travel = happy travel!

4️⃣ Assuming All Beaches Are Kid-Friendly 🌊

Some beaches have strong currents or aren’t great for swimming. Look for calm, shallow spots like Ao Nang (Krabi), Choeng Mon (Koh Samui), or White Sand Beach (Koh Chang).

5️⃣ Ignoring Travel Times 🚗✈️

That “quick” island hop might involve boats, buses, and long waits. Factor in travel time and avoid late-night arrivals with kids.

6️⃣ Forgetting Mosquito Protection 🦟

Dengue fever is a risk. Use kid-friendly repellent, long sleeves in the evening, and stay in accommodations with good mosquito nets.

Bangkok is packed with incredible temples, but are they all worth visiting? Here’s our honest take on 4 of them:

🔹 Grand Palace – 6/10
Yes, it’s beautiful, but it’s also crowded, expensive (500 THB per adult), and overhyped. If you go, aim for early morning to avoid the worst of the crowds. Dress code is strict (shoulders and knees covered).

🔹 Wat Arun – 10/10 🌅
An absolute must-see! Best visited at golden hour when the light hits its intricate porcelain tiles just right. Entrance is 100 THB, and be sure to climb up for a stunning river view.

🔹 Wat Pho – 7/10
Famous for the giant reclining Buddha, this temple is worth visiting but can feel a bit touristy. Entrance is 200 THB, and it’s also home to Thailand’s most famous traditional massage school—so why not book a massage after exploring?

🔹 Wat Samphran (Dragon Temple) – 9/10 🐉
One of Bangkok’s most unique temples—a 17-story pink tower wrapped in a dragon! You can walk inside the dragon’s body to the top for epic views. It’s far from the city center, but entry is by donation. A hidden gem that’s totally worth the trip!

Save these tips for your family trip Thailand - they’ll come in very handy… trust us!

1️⃣ Taxis Will Try to Overcharge You – Always ask them to use the meter! If they refuse, walk away or use the Grab app instead. Bonus tip: In Bangkok, avoid taxis parked outside tourist spots—they’re the worst for overcharging.

2️⃣ Not All Islands Are Kid-Friendly – While Thailand has stunning islands, some have rough boat rides, limited medical facilities, or nightlife that’s not ideal for little ones. Koh Lanta, Koh Samui, and Railay Beach are some of the best for families.

3️⃣ You’ll Need Small Change for Public Toilets – Many public toilets charge 5-10 THB per use, and some don’t provide toilet paper. Always keep small coins and tissues with you!

4️⃣ Street Dogs Are Everywhere – Most are harmless, but some can be territorial, especially at night or near food stalls. Teach kids to stay calm, avoid running past them, and not to feed them.

5️⃣ 7-Eleven Toasties Will Save You – When kids refuse Thai food, these cheesy toasties (made fresh in-store) are a cheap and easy backup meal. Plus, 7-Eleven has everything from baby wipes to mosquito repellent in case you forget anything!
